Name: adam j. nelson Congratulations on a fine website and purpose. I'm looking forward to reading some more of the contributions. I'd be interested in any academics (or political operators) willing to take a pot-shot at GE modelling and its relationship to policy making - I think it's an area that warrants sharp analysis. Re your site's name - I'm sure you're aware that the line "Who breaks a butterfly on a wheel?" is taken from Alexander Pope and was made famous in the London Times editorial written by William Rees-Mogg(sp?) in 1967 following the sentencing of Messrs Jagger and Richard to 3 months jail for dope possession (the Redlands bust). One for the trainspotters.

Name: scott There certainly are quite a lot of bad ideas running around, not only the general public, but academia as well. As far as fitting with my interest in philosophy, critical thinking, and general understanding of how the truth is imparted and received, in my estimation, this is simply one of the most superb sites on the web. A useful and fun resource. Thanks you two! :)

Name: Yasmeen I am writing in quick response to Azam Kamguian's article entitled "Why Should Islamic Law be Opposed?" I am completely baffled as to how someone can criticize the religion which I regard as perfect. As a young American Muslim woman attending a university, I can tell you that women in Islam are treated with dignity, respect and honor. This completely contradicts the status of women in this culture, which only honors beautiful women. Many of the things mentioned in your article appear to be your impression of Islam after viewing select Muslims abusing the religion. I do not look at the Ku Klux Klan (who claim to be Christian) or other horrific organizations and try to convince the public that they are Christian. They are indeed malicious groups of people who abuse religion for personal gain. All aspects of your article have been twisted in the hopes of getting people to feel hatred towards Islam and Muslims. Only the ignorant can believe such horrible propoganda.

Name: S Prabhakar Read the article by Meera Nanda on Hindu nationalism and 'vedic sciences' and postmodernism. Really impressed by the analysis (If the author really read all the persons' works he/she mentioned in the article). Because of the tough english I could not comprehend many of the sentences. But whatever I understood makes sense and makes a sincere attempt towards to 'truth'. Might have to read it many times before I completely understand all the words and meaning. Then I read the 'about us' page. Liked your good will. Thanks.

Name: rob stowell Very good site. I'll be back. echoing others- "taboo" appears to me to be about convention rahter than morality. if one believes harm to be the prime moral factor, you've (almost completely) excluded it. also- i found i was disagreeing/not "fully consistent" in my answers because i felt in some scenarios there WAS the possibility for harm. i don't believe secret sex with a frozen chicken is in that man's best interests! what if the brother or sister were married? what if they later married but this incident kept them from finding their marriage satisfactory? doesn't breaking a solemn promise to one's mother somehow harm one's sense of integrity- even if one never feels guilty? it's fairly easy to see how some harm COULD arise. very interesting experience though!

Name: Rhonda Keith Followed the links, and then links to links ~ very good stuff. I'm going to mention B&W in my newsletter, Parvum Opus (www.keithops.us). As for the Taboo test, "harm" seems to mean only visible, physical harm to oneself or others. There is such a thing as subtle (and not so subtle) spiritual harm. Surely a human is more than a chicken, for instance.

Name: Don Clark Engaging, useful, fun and worrying at the same time. Compiled and argued with enthusiasm and wit. Still, needs some more time spent on editing: there are a quite a few obvious typos and broken links. These, however, are no more than pulled threads in a bright fabric, compared with the stifling fustian of the babel-meisters.
